Clouds gather over Castell Criccieth (Criccieth Castle) on the northern shoreline of the Llyn Peninsula, Gwynneth, Wales. This castle was built by the Welsh Prince, Llywellyn the Great in the 1230s but was captured by Edward I in 1283 and continued to be a target of Welsh insurgency for quite some time beyond. In more recent times it became famous for somewhat more artistic reasons being a subject for Turner's series of paintings depicting shipwrecked mariners.
