Colton's Territories of New Mexico, Arizona, Colorado, Nevada and Utah. Artist/engraver/cartographer: Joseph Hutchins Colton. Provenance: "Colton's General Atlas", published by J.H. Colton, 172 William Street, New York. Type: Antique engraved hand coloured atlas map. The map predates the 1867 transfer of the northwestern corner of Arizona Territory, west of the Colorado River and 37° west from Washington, to Nevada. The transferred territory included the location of the city of Las Vegas (marked on the map as "Vegas") which was thus in Arizona at the time of publication.
