Inthe nori.ial effect the current incrpases with the frequency of the in-cident light and the orientation of the plane of polarization is ofpractically no influence except in so far as the absorption of lightdepends upon it. The selective e^fect Joes net appear by itself, but is always superimposed upon the norrnal effect. Thus it is seen that the oriantation of the plane of polririzationdoes not chanse the position of the curve IT, but it does cause thecurx-e R to be shifted parallel to itself in the ^rsrtical direction.The highest position of the curve P! above Ihe horizontal exists forthe plane of polarization perpendicular to the plan
