Corticosterone is produced in the cortex of the adrenal glands, which sit above the kidneys. It is a glucocorticoid steroid hormone that helps to regulate the conversion of amino acids to carbohydrates and glycogen by the liver and stimulate glycogen formation in the tissues. It can also be used as an anti-inflammatory to treat arthritis, skin diseases and allergic reactions.
