Store closed in May, 2008. It was replaced by a new super center less than a mile and a half as the crow flies. Property set vacant for 12 year. City of Garland purchased the property for just under $7-million with Walmart demoloshing the massive building. Historically, the project was a success during the 80s and 90s. Walmart has a history of developing stores with experimental stores first like a Walmart on top of a Sam's Club and environmental drainage and heating. The concept has worked well for the retail giant and its ability to change directions on a dime.
