Displacement reaction. Image 1 of 2. Hand about to add zinc (Zn) metal to an aqueous solution (blue) of copper (II) sulphate (CuSO4). The zinc will react with the solution to form zinc sulphate, depositing solid copper metal as zinc ions replace the dissolved copper ions. This is known as a displacement or substitution reaction.
