Dust mites. Light micrograph of a dust mite Dermatophagoides sp., seen in a sample of house- hold dust. The mite has a head (gnathosoma) and a haired body containing four pairs of legs. Every house contains millions of such dust mites, living in the carpets and furniture, and crevices containing dust. They feed on the flakes of skin shed by their human landlords, on wallpaper paste and furniture stuffing. Magnification: x32 at 35mm size.
