Eczema on face. Seborrhoeic eczema on the face of a 76-year-old man. Eczema is an inflammation of the skin accompanied by itching and blisters. Seborrhoeic eczema is when there is an excessive secretion of sebum (oil and cellular debris) due to the condition. Excess keratin proteins in the sebum has also lead to the formation of a seborrhoeic wart (brown) on his forehead. This is a benign (non-cancerous) skin growth also known as basal cell papilloma or seborrhoeic keratosis. The wart is harmless but can be treated by freezing (cryosurgery) for cosmetic reasons. Eczema does not always have a known cause but can be treated with soothing ointments and corticosteroid drugs.
