Edinburgh, Scotland, UK. 20th May 2023. Wojtek's Day in Princes Street Gardens with a ceremony next to the statue in his honour. Wojtek the soldier bear served with the Polish II Corps during world war II starting as a rank of Private and eventually being promoted to rank of Corporal. He helped to move ammunition crates, with chores and became a celebrity in his time. After WW2 the Polish II Corps and Wojtek moved to Scotland, and Wojtek subsequently moved to Edinburgh Zoo in 1947 and died in 1963 aged 21. Consul Łukasz Lutostański and author Aileen Orr.
