El Salvador Views from Secretary Mel Martinez Visit Subject, Streets, housing, residents, landscapes, crowds in one of the villages visited by Secretary Mel Martinez during his three-day trip to El Salvador, during which he announced that $5 million of the $110 million pledged by President George W. Bush in El Salvador earthquake relief over the next two years would be made available within 30 days for construction of permanent homes and rural schools, and purchase of medical equipment. Martinez, the first member of the Bush Cabinet to visit El Salvador, also signed a Memorandum of Cooperation under which the U.S. and El Salvador agreed to collaborate and exchange information on housing and community development.
