Farmer Andrew Elms harvesting his five acres of lavender Lordington near Chichester in West Sussex on a sunny July day. The crop will produce about 40 litres of pure lavender oil. Mr Elms gave up dairy farming because of falling milk prices and turned his land into the only lavender farm in Sussex using Mailette plants from Provence in the south of France which have thrived in a dry summer.
