Flood 1953. Volcanic landscape in the meadows of Willemstad (North Brabant). As a result of the storm disaster, incredibly large clods of peat weighing 4 to 5 tons ended up in the pastures near Willemstad through the flood hole. At the moment these clods of peat are being removed to produce peat for domestic heating. When the peat clods have been removed, a layer of 50 cm of sand that was left on the meadows still needs to be shoveled away.
