More information:

Green shield bug (Palomena prasina), coloured scanning electron micrograph (SEM). Shield bugs (family Pentatomidae) have a triangular shield on their back. It is formed from an enlarged scutellum (one of the dorsal plates of cuticle on the thorax). They are also called stink bugs because of the foul-smelling fluid they discharge to discourage predators when disturbed. Magnification: x6.5 at 6x7cm size.
