HE Scientific Society was organized in March, 1895, and later received the name of TheJoseph Leidy Scientific Society, of Swarthmore College. Its object is to keep abreast withthe discoveries in the scientific world. There are five sciences included in the work of theAssociation: Astronomy, Biology and Physiography, Chemistry, Engineering, and Physics.The programs of the meetings consist of a report from the instructors in each of the abovedepartments concerning the recent discoveries in their respective sciences. Papers are thenread by different members on topics of scientific interest, followed by an open discussionby the Society. The interesting character of these programs is shown by the full attendance at the meet-ings, from both the College and the Borough. The Executive Committee consists of a committee of threefrom each department—one instructor and two students. The residents of the borough of Swarthmore are eligible to membership, as well as the students andofficers of the
