Hard Rock Hotel and Casino is pictured, May 8, 2021, in Biloxi, Mississippi. Hard Rock Hotel and Casino was founded in Las Vegas in 1995. The $1.9 million sign features a replica guitar that is 112 feet tall and is the largest guitar sign at any of the Hard Rock properties. It is a replica of an HP Signature guitar named for Hartley Peavey, founder of Meridian-based Peavey Electronics Corp. Today, the Seminole Tribe of Florida owns the majority of the Hard Rock properties, including Hard Rock Biloxi, which opened in 2007. The casino features more than 50 game tables and more than 1, 300 slot machines. The pet-friendly, smoke-friendly resort also includes a gym, a spa, and numerous restaurants and event venues. Biloxi is a popular vacation destination due to its sandy beaches and numerous waterfront gambling casinos, which include Golden Nugget, Beau Rivage, Isle of Capri, and Grand Casino. Due to the proliferation of gambling, the Mississippi Gulf Coast is often called the "Poor Man's Riviera." Much of Biloxi's waterfront property along Scenic Highway 90 was destroyed by Hurricane Katrina, Aug. 29, 2005, but as a result of revitalization efforts, recovery is now well underway. (Carmen K.
