August 27, 2008 On the beach in front of their fish camp in Ekuk, Alaska, fisherman "set-net" for salmon. "Set-netter's", as they are called, are the only fishery done from the shore, where nets are set out at low tide and then at low tide, the nets are hauled in by hand or with the help of a vehicle. Most set-netters supply salmon for local canneries and for their own subsistance living in Alaska.
