Hoboken is in New Jersey, across the Hudson River from Lower Manhattan. By the late 19th century, shipping lines were using Hoboken as a terminal port, and the Delaware, Lackawanna & Western Railroad (later the Erie Lackawanna Railroad) developed a railroad terminal on the waterfront. In 1907, the present terminal was constructed. It is listed on the New Jersey Register of Historic Places and the National Register of Historic Places.
