Inflammation of the toes and foot caused by cellulitis, secondary to Athlete's foot (tinea pedis) in a 71 year old female patient. Cellulitis is a bacterial infection of the tissues beneath the skin. Athlete's foot is the most common form of ringworm, a fungal infection of the surface of the skin and caused by various species of fungi. It causes itchy breaks in the skin, which can allow bacteria to infect the tissues below.
