Io, geologic map. Mercator projection map of Jupiter's moon Io. The map was produced using data and photographs taken by the Voyager 1 and 2 spacecraft and Galileo Orbiter. Colours correspond to features such as lava flow (purple), mountains (blue), plume deposits (dark red, violet and pink), domes (sandy brown) and plains (grey to light brown). Volcanically active Io is unusual in the solar system as it has no impact craters.
