January 22, 2019 - Tripura, India, 22 January 2018. 31 Rohingya who were stranded on the India-Bangladesh border for three days, are held at the Amtali Police Station after they were arrested by Indian Border Security Force (BSF) and handed over to the Tripura Police on Tuesday. The Rohingya were detained by the Bangladeshi Border Guards in no-man's land, between the international borders of India and Bangladesh along West Tripura district as both countries refused to accept them, until Tuesday morning when BSF agreed to arrest them and to hand them over to the police, ending a standoff with the Bangladeshi border guards. The Rohingya group, which includes 6 men, 9 women and 16 children, are believed by the police to be from the Jammu refugee camp and that they were trying to sneak into Bangladesh before the BSF personnel caught them and took them back to India. According to India Ministry of Home Affairs, there are about 40, 000 Rohingya India, although the UNHCR has put the number of registered refugees and asylum seeker at 18, 000. Since August 2017 over 700, 000 Rohingya have fled the Rakhine State in Myanmar and moved mainly to Bangladesh to escape from Myanmar‘s alleged discrimination and lack of citizen’s rights (Credit Image: © Abhisek Saha/IMAGESLIVE via ZUMA Wire)
