The 1956 Olympic Champion, Charles Dumas - and the first jumper to clear 7ft - used this version of the straddle. The other version of the straddle is the dive method, where the head goes over the bar first. In amateur high jumping the two styles are often mixed together, in a what ever gets you over bar works.
