After a tractor convoy around the city centre, more than 60 tractors parked in front of the Kassel Regional Council. The farmers then met in front of Kassel's town hall to talk to the public. Farmer Marc Sprenger (49, Staufenberg-Escherode): "If the traffic light government abolishes the tax-free number plates and the agricultural diesel subsidies, there will be a market distortion in Europe. Families will have to absorb this, they will have nothing left". Farmer Kim Fasshauer (48, Kammerbach/Werra-Meißner district) asks about social justice and does the maths: "With social compensation, the government justifies giving some families 50 euros more, but farmers get 500 euros a month. But our prices cannot go up". Sprenger adds: "If it gets too expensive on the domestic market, the buyer in the discount store will eventually buy the products from abroad". René Riede (29, employed farmer in Espenau): "This affects our bosses financially. If the tractors have to have black number plates, one or the other will certainly need a lorry driver's licence, which the companies will have to pay for", Credit: Karsten Socher Fotografie/Alamy Live News
