A Christmas special steam train is heading from Southend on Sea in Essex to Chichester in Sussex to give its passengers the chance to visit yuletide markets and a special carol service. The train is being operated by Steam Dreams and hauled by Stanier Class 5 number 45231 named ‘The Sherwood Forester’. The 1936-built locomotive is seen here at Leigh on Sea station at dawn taking on passengers and water for its trip. 45231 served with British Rail until the very last days of BR steam in 1968 then passed into preservation.
