The nasofrontal duct and antrum of Highmore are operated upon inthe same manner by securing anesthesia by the use of swabs over thesurfaces to be operated upon. The uvula presents no difficulties, and is easily anesthetized by afew applications with the swab or it can be infiltrated. The lingual tonsil presents some difficulties, and should be anes-thetized with great care, particularly if the cautery is to be used;as cocain is destroyed by heat, it is necessary to have the anesthesiapenetrate well beyond the influence of the cautery, passing the swabswell down to its base between the folds of the lymphoid tissue. The nasopharynx is ordinarily rather difficult of operation underlocal anesthesia, largely due to its being rather difficultly accessible, and to its being covered in these cases with tenacious mucus w
