London, England. 1911 - A view of one of the fountains and the base of Nelson’s Column at Trafalgar Square, London. The photograph shows the original fountain centrepiece dating from the 1840s. This was replaced following the Second World War with a new design by Sir Edwin Lutyens. A group of children are gathered around the fountain. Horse-drawn omnibuses can be seen passing by. The roof of a building in The Strand, visible in the distance is decorated with a giant White Ensign flag and bunting in preparation for the coronation of King George V in June 1911.
