London Southend Airport, Essex, UK. 1st May, 2022. The airport in the new city of Southend on Sea has been without passenger flights since the final withdrawal of Ryanair in October 2021, caused by the downturn in air travel during the COVID pandemic. easyJet had been the airport’s main operator since arriving in 2012 but withdrew all its services in August 2020. The airline has returned today for the first of what is planned to be 12 scheduled flights per week to European destinations.
