Medial moraine. View along a glacier showing medial (or central) moraine. This is an accumulation of rocky debris running along the length of the glacier parallel to the direction of flow. Medial moraine is formed when two glaciers merge, the lateral (side) moraines at the point of merger being carried to the surface of the ice to form a central band of debris.
