Mission San Jose, part of the San Antonio Missions National Historical Park, was founded by Franciscan friars and completed in 1720 on the banks of the San Antonio River. The mission, along with four other missions that are part of San Antonio's Mission Trail, have been placed on the World Heritage List by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO). The church houses an active congregation that is part of the Catholic Diocese of San Antonio.
