Schwartz's Montreal Hebrew Delicatessen, Charcuterie Hebraique de Montréal, was established in 1928, by Reuben Schwartz, a Jewish immigrant from Romania. Famous for Jewish (but not Kosher) dishes like smoked meat it's a cultural institution and landmark in Montreal. Waiting tourists line the sidewalk at almost all hours. Just around the corner and visible in the background is a nine-story portrait mural of singer Leonard Cohen by artist Kevin Ledo done for the annual Montreal MuralFest, the Mural International Public Art Festival at the corner of Saint-Dominique and Napoleon Street. Leonard Cohen (1934-2016) was a Montreal native and used to live two blocks from here.
