Newton's optics, 18th-century diagrams. Optics was one of the subjects studied by English physicist and mathematician Isaac Newton (1642-1727). He investigated prisms, lenses, telescopes, and the spectrum of light among other phenomena, with this diagram showing a colour scale with Latin names. He published his results and theories in 'Opticks' (1704). This page is from 'Opera' (1779-85), the collected works of English physicist and mathematician Isaac Newton (1642-1727).
