Nov 27, 2006; Palm City, FL, USA; This two-month-old male stray cat doesn't yet have a name. He was brought to the Humane Society of the Treasure Coast. He's not yet ready for adoption, but about 30 other cats currently are available. Before he can be adopted animal techs will wash him, trim his nails, give him worming medicine, test him for leukemia and check out his general health. One of the people caring for him is Linda Hammond, cq. Hammond, cat tech supervisor, has worked at shelters for 20 years and has been at this one for four years. She loves her job, but says sometimes it's difficult. "Because they (cats) come in and you can't save the world." She works with the cats, washing, feeding and cleaning them. She gets them ready to be adopted. "They don't have anyone but us, " she said. The Humane Society of the Treasure Coast currently has about 60 animals available for adoption: cats, dogs, rabbits and a hamster. Mandatory Credit: Photo by Vada Mossavat/Palm Beach Post/ZUMA Press.
