The Spreewald is a wetland area area known for its system of more than 200 small canals (Fließe) with a total length of approximately 1500 kilometres.It is situated in the Brandenburg district about a 100km south eat of Berlin and was was designated a biosphere reserve by UNESCO in 1991. It has a population of about 50, 000 people and It is a popular tourist destination.
