Oscar Wilde (1854-1900) was an Irish author, poet and playwright known for his wit, philosophical aestheticism, and hedonism. Wilde was arrested, tried, and convicted in 1885 for gross indecency with men, and served two years in prison. A few years later he died destitute in Paris at the age of 46.
