More information:

While Osun, a female deity is revered and worshipped by priestesses and devotees that are predominantly female, one male figure plays a central role in the scheme of affairs of Osun traditional religion. He Baba Olosun, the High Priest of Osun. Usually, he works in the background, in various activities directed at the preservation of the Osun Grove, maintenance of the Osun temple in the palace, and preparation of the calabash that will be taken to River Osun by Arugba. He, however, takes center stage on the last day, the climax of the annual Osun Osogbo festival. In the procession from the palace to the grove, he acts as the guide of the maid bearing the calabash of sacrifice to River Osun. Thereafter, he takes his place by the shrine by the riverside engrossed in Ifa divination, performing rituals and supplication to deities on behalf of devotees. Adigun Olosun, Baba Olosun since 1977, is a High Priest of Yoruba Traditional Religion. A famous Babalawo, he is the founder of Iya Dudu Centre for Yoruba Arts and Culture in Wachtberg, Germany.
