Philip V, King of Spain, 1700 (1906). From the original painting by Hyacinthe Rigaud, in the Louvre, Paris. Philip (1683-1725) was one of the claimants to the Spanish throne in the dispute that led to the War of the Spanish Succession. The outcome of the war was that Philip remained king but Spain gave up various territories to Britain, the Austrian Habsburgs and Savoy. He was the first Spanish monarch of the Bourbon dynasty. A print from Queen Anne, by Herbert Paul, Goupil and Co, London, 1906.
