In its pure white crystalline form Erythritol is an alternative substitute sweetener to the widely-known table sugar / Sucrose and is often used in dieting products, as a food additive, and also in managing diabetes where management of sucrose sugar intake is medically important. In this respect Erythritol is similarly used to the other key sugar alcohol Xylitol. Technically speaking Erythritol is a polyalcohol or sugar alcohol, the 'itol' denoting sugar alcohol while 'ose' is the suffix for sugars generally. There are certain health benefits to these alternative sugars which you can read about online. From personal experience xylitol and erythritol the OTC products have the granularity of caster sugar or table salt, though powdered or large crystalline product may be produced somewhere. Xylitol is a similar sugar substitute to Erythritol, also being a sugar alcohol and being used in place of common sucrose table sugar. Can be used as part of a Keto diet.
