Plegmon eye inflammation. Artwork of a woman with a subcutaneous (below the skin) phlegmon inflammation of her left eye cavity (right). The term phlegmon refers to acute pus-forming inflammation, usually restricted to a specific region. Some cases are caused by bacterial infection, but many are not. Treatment depends on the severity, location and cause of the inflammation. For a lateral sagittal view, see C014/5645.
