Pontresina - Life in the High Alps of Switzerland. Swiss "Jeeps" Are Called "Willys" -- This Swiss make of light car is very similar to the American war all-purposes car. It is admirably suited to the steep and circuitous roads of the country. Signpost at the eastern end of Pontresina shows the way to the Bernina Pass and Poschiavo, at the Italian frontier. Unless really serious climbing of glaciers and rocky peaks is contemplated there is little need for special dresses up here; heavy boots are quite unnecessary for those who keep to the well looked after footpaths. She sells gloves, stockings, cheap jewellery, lengths of material to hotel staffs. Her store is neatly packed on her back. Here, a heavy plank is carried into a joiner's workshop. Work, work, work could be the Swiss national motto.
