Pulmonary mucormycosis (or zygomycosis), a lung disease caused by fungi Mucor, also known as black fungus, computer illustration. Zygomycete fungi are widely distributed in the air, water and soil. They do not normally cause infection, however patients with compromised immune systems, such as those with AIDS, burns patients or patients on steroid therapy may develop the disease. It is also registered as Covid-19 complication. The fungus can infect the lungs, sinuses, gastrointestinal system, or the skin. Treatment is by early surgical intervention and anti-fungal drugs.
