It occured March 5, 1770, and had an impor-tant part in leading up to the Revolution. Long Wharf, in the early days of the town, started from nearthe corner of the present Kilby St. Here the royal governorsmade their fomial landing; here the British soldiers enteredthe town; and from here they made their departure. Untilafter 1760, Kilby St., then called Mackerel Lane, was only apathway along the water. Faneuil Hall, The Cradle of Liberty, is but a short walkfrom the Old State House, through Exchange St. or the pictur-esquely narrow Change Av
