Red Square in Moscow in February 1988 when the city was capital of the Soviet Union. The Kremlin is at the right and St. Basil's cathedral is at the left in the distance. While many believe the square was named by the communists who ruled from Moscow after 1917, the square's name comes from the second meaning of the Russian word for red: Beautiful.
