It has been particularly active since 1955, with frequent small eruptions and occasional larger eruptions...Despite the volcanic activity, Sakurajima is still home to around 4, 000 people who live and work on the island and many farmers. The volcano is closely monitored by the Japan Meteorological Agency and has an alert level system in place to ensure the safety of residents and visitors...Sakurajima is also a popular tourist attraction, offering stunning views of the volcano and the surrounding landscape. Visitors can take a ferry from Kagoshima city to the island and explore the hiking trails, hot springs, and other natural wonders.
