September 14, 2023, Santa Barbara, California, U.S: The Marque at the historic Arlington Theater in downtown Santa Barbara went from reading “Barbie” to “L Shana Tovah” on the eve of Rosh Hashanah. which means wishing a happy New year. ..Many Jews expressed delightful surprise in seeing the Hebrew blessing in big letters on the Marque, both because Jewish culture largely goes ignored, and security reasons make the Jewish community hesitant to widely promote religious events. But this year they are holding High Holiday services at the Arlington Theater while the largest synagogue in the county is under renovation, and Rabbis have decided to stand up to anti-semitism in a more visible way.
