The four-armed Sarasvatī sits in lalitasana on a lotus flower on a stepped throne. In her upper left hand she carries a vina and plucks its strings with her lower right. In her upper right hand is the pustaka (book), while in her lower left is a mala (string of beads). The neck of the vina ends in a finely carved makara head, a pearl tassel issuing from its mouth.
