Sauen, Germany. 29th Jan, 2019. The ivy-covered and partially sunken building of the old steam brickworks Philipp Holzmann & Cie. The steam brickworks, which is located in the present forest of the August Bier Foundation, started operations in 1891 and produced facing bricks, shaped bricks and roof tiles until 1912. Up to five different types of bats spend the winter each year in the vaults, some of which have already collapsed. These also include protected species such as the pug bat and the mouse ear.
