Ono no Komachi, Edo period (1615–1868), 1756–1829, Japan, Polychrome woodblock print; ink and color on paper, 14 5/8 x 9 5/8 in. (37.1 x 24.4 cm), Prints, Chōbunsai Eishi (Japanese, 1756–1829), Ono no Komachi, the Heian poetess seen here in Edo dress, wears a robe decorated with cherry flowers, which blossom in her hair as well. The bellflowers painted on her fan, symbols of autumn, contrast with a spray of spring cherry on the ground before her
