The Great Seal of Edward the Confessor used to symbolise the Sovereign's approval of important state documents. He was also known as Saint Edward the Confessor (1003 – 5 January 1066). Usually considered the last king of the House of Wessex, he was among the last Anglo-Saxon kings of England and ruled from 1042 to 1066.
