1972 - Works Of Art: From Wood Pieces: Have you ever seen a vase made of 21,000 pieces of eight different kinds of wood? Well, folk artist, Jan Vavra, a retired cabinet maker from Novy Jicin, northern Morvia, has just finished one, and is making another. His great hobby is most-time-consuming ( the vase, for instance, took 12,000) hours to make. Jan Vavra makes many pretty items from wood, which he shapes, sticks in place and make up into ornaments. Last year he was awarded first prize in the sphere of applied arts in a regional display of work by amateur creative artists. Photo Shows: Jan Vav
