As the 1st anniversary of the Japanese Tsunami approaches, I spent two days in the Mayagi region of Japan. During this time I managed to drive to Ishinomaki town and Sendai Port. I had no real comprehension of what I would find or the damage that would still exist nearly a year on from the horrific event but hoped to find a situation still worth photographing. Upon turning a corner off the main road I drove into what once was a housing surburb and was shocked by what I saw, the vista in image 1 in this series. The 20 images in this project aim to capture the foreboding, surreal nature of the event and more importantly the human cost that is still evidient nearly one year on from the event. mikebracey.
