A pair of ravens soar over in the Cooley Mountains. Mating pairs of ravens are monogamous and the species is also known for a sense of fun with instances of sliding on their backs in the snow on record. When Irish warriors of old died in the field of battle, ravens which landed upon their bodies were thought to carry the soul of the warrior to heaven. Legend has it a raven landed on the shoulder of the Irish warrior hero, Cuchulainn, before he died.
